There will be lots for everyone to do at COSine since we will be having a variety of programming and activities.

Programming is always under Construction. This is what we have so far:

    Friday, 1 February

  • 4pm - 5pm Tower 3 'Heinlein - Page to Screen'
    Dan Hoyt (m), Mike Resnick, Scott Humphries
    How well has Hollywood treated Robert Heinlein?
  • 5pm - 6pm Tower 3 'Changing the Way We Read and Write'
    Scott Humphries, Alan Lickiss (m), Mary Morman, Cary Quinn
    Technology is making changes in our lives, including how we access literature-- electronic books, kindle, and instant publishing are a few examples. How are readers changing, and how are authors coping?
  • 6pm - 7pm Tower 3 'Favorite Stories'
    Warren Hammond, Dan Hoyt, Sarah Hoyt, Rebecca Lickiss (m), Alan Lickiss
    Authors discuss some of their favorites.
  • 7pm - 8pm Tower 3 Opening Ceremonies and Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream
    Jack Heneghan and Mike Resnick
    Ice cream isn't rocket science, even when you make it with liquid nitrogen! Come watch us make ice cream and demonstrate other super-cold experiments. This demo will be run by gifted amateurs, and we'll leave the rocket scientists to kibbitz from the audience.

  • 11am – noon Tower 3 'The Science in Science Fiction'

    Remember how magical those Star Trek communicators seemed in 1966? And now we all have cell phones! Our panelists discuss how SF has influenced modern technology, and how the future will be influenced still further. Say, now, where’s my flying car?
  • noon – 1pm Tower 3 Guest of Honor interview
    Mike Resnick and Jack Heneghan
    Con Chair Jack Heneghan leads you through an hour with our award-winning guest of honor, Mike Resnick.
  • 1pm – 2pm Tower 3 'Thinking Outside the Page'
    Kevin Anderson (m), Ed Bryant, Scott Humphries (m), Alan Lickiss, Wil McCarthy, Mike Resnick, John Stith
    Technology is affecting the rest of the world, and writers are not immune. Ebooks, podcasts, and online publishing have had a profound effect on the of technology on publishing. New & non-traditional sources of income for writers now include e-books, podcasts, comics, games, and online publishing. Publishing itself is moving beyond the big New York presses. What's happening now and what's yet to come?
  • 2pm – 3pm Tower 3 'Rising Stars: Breaking Into the SF & Field'

    Newer professionals discuss their perspective on writing, editors, agents, and publishing.
  • 3pm – 4pm Tower 3 'Eclipses'
    Ronnie Seagren and Mike Brotherton
    What actually happens during a total eclipse? Ronnie Seagren has photos from Puerta Vallarta in 1991, film from Austria in 1999, tips for viewing and photographing eclipses, and info on the 1937 eclipse that figures in her April book. Astronomer Mike Brotherton will explain the science underlying eclipses.
  • 4pm – 5pm Tower 3 'The Big Tent'

    There are many sub-genres-- now military, historical, and horror are popular. How do they get together, and what is coming?
  • 5pm – 6pm Tower 2 Mass Autograph Session and Raffle
    And to ensure that there are plenty of books available for the Autographing session we’ll also be holding a book raffle with dozens of books by our attending authors (and others!). Just remember that either you or your representative must be present to win.
  • 8pm Tower 3 Readings and a Humor 'Read-Off'

    Come listen to some new works, and see if anyone is brave enough to take Mike on in a humor read-off.
  • 8pm - 11pm Rockies Room English Country Dance
    Our COSine dance master (and next year’s con chair...) Ted Monogue will lead us in English Country Dance in the Rockies room (up the stairs across from hotel registration). No prior experience is necessary (although if you took square dancing lessons in junior high you’ll have an edge... ) and you don’t need to bring a partner. Dress casually and wear comfortable shoes.

  • 10am – 11am Tower 3 'COSine Trailer Park: The Year in Review'
    Hosted by Cary Quinn
    Are you trying to figure out what to nominate for this year’s Hugo awards? Want to know what to put in your Netflix queue? Cary will show trailers and a panel chosen from the audience will rate the movies.
  • 11am – noon Tower 3 Researching Your Fiction
    David Boop, Carol Hightshoe, Sarah Hoyt (m), Alan Lickiss, Rebecca Lickiss
    Yes, it’s fiction, but it's important to get your facts straight. How to get in-depth information on the time, area, or culture you are writing about.
  • noon – 1pm Tower 3 “Pulps, Memorabilia, and Fannish Estates”
    Mike Resnick, Kent Bloom (m), Joe Sokola
    Wonders from the Golden Age! And if you do collect pulps, books, fanzines, and other memorabilia, then you should listen to some of the horror stories about what can happen to your treasured collections if you don’t plan sensibly for their disposal or dispersal.
  • 1pm – 2pm Academy Room Art Auction, followed by a Reading
    Jim Humble and Mike Resnick
    The auction will be in the art room but it usually is relatively short, so we will have a chance to hear Mike read from his recent works.
  • 2pm – 3pm Tower 3 'Denvention 3 Presentation'

    The Worldcon is almost upon us! And it’s only 60 miles away! Find out the latest about the 66th World Science Fiction Convention being held in Denver next August.
  • 3pm Tower 3 Closing Ceremonies

  • 5pm ConSuite - T141 Dead Dog Party
    After we clear up and tear down the con (you’re helping, right?) the COSine committee invites you to join us in the con suite for a Dead Dog/SuperBowl party. We’ll finish up the drinks and the goodies, and cheer on our favorite teams.
